We had an amazing stay here, we were a big group of 17 on a cycle trip - highly recommend

Very pleasant location great breakfast

A straightforward hostel in a superb location. Our 4- bed family room was simply furnished but clean and comfortable, with a view over the river below. Shower water was hot and plentiful. The kitchen was well-equipped and clean. Plenty of tea, coffee and milk available to make yourself a cuppa on arrival. It was great to stay overnight in this special location: memories of walking the riverbank in the twilight hoping for otters, sitting in the sun by the war memorial after the day visitors had left, hearing dippers singing from the river when I woke. Recommended.

Arrived to our rooms to be greeted by stained carpets and bunk beds which had the most itchy sheets and solid mattresses and not to mention itchy pillows, breakfast and dinner was also included and the meals were left untouched the cooked breakfast had runny scrambled eggs which was mostly liquid and no egg and bacon which stung your mouth not to mention dried out baked beans, the starter for both nights was leek and pea soup and carrot and coriander soup which was better than the pea and leek which was left untouched dinner was also lasagne which was edible but bland and streakpie which the steak and puff pastry was edible and we also were greeted by 3 large dry boiled potatoes on our plate and for desert greeted by two scoops of icecream, what a relief to be home

The only question is if this Hostel even deserves this one Star!Absolutely disgusting to stay there.. Once we had entered our room after a 30 hour journey we were greeted by the delicious smell all of rotted onions..There is no WiFi and a very bad phone signal.. Windows do not open to full extent which is quite annoying due to the discussing smell of sewerage and a not quite functioning ventilation system. Though the shower water is warm it smells of chlorine just like the usual swimming pool. On top of that almost no water comes out of the shower head witch is enormously annoying if there are four or more people sharing a room!Breakfast which was included in our hostel arrangement was served in the close buy Hotel. As we were all looking forward to it after our first night in the stinky room we were disappointed once again... But Breakfast (mini flakes and juice) was just a joke!Everyone was excited to come to Scotland and experience the unique atmosphere but after being disappointed again and again everyone wants to go back home.. as far away as possible were there is running water and a functional flush!
